Are you interested in learning how to upholster your own seats? Here at PitStop Campers we can teach you all the skills you need to be able to successfully re-upholster your own car or van seats.
Past students have attended our courses for various reasons, including wanting to add the finishing touches to their project van or just wanting to learn a new skill to help them start a new business or compliment an existing business.
Courses & Prices
The 5 day course covers an introduction to materials, equipment and the sewing machine. The first practical task is reupholstering the base of your seat, this is tutor led and covers the principles and techniques required. From here you move on to upholstering the back of your seat, this is where you get to put everything you learned into practise to complete your first seat.
The 10 day course covers the same syllabus of the 5 day course in week one and then in week two focuses on more advanced techniques, including different patterns, templating a head rest, learning about the principles of covering a rock n roll bed, etc.
Please note: the syllabus for week 2 is specific to each student and will cover topics that are appropriate for the students needs and the time they have available.
1 day specific
The one day course is designed for people who have already completed the 5 or 10 day course. It is designed to cover a topic that you may still need some help with or that you never got a chance to do on your first course, such as covering a headrest.
What can I expect
To learn a LOT! It's a very practical course, you will be given a demonstration on each step and then you carry out the work yourself under the watchful eye of our instructor. There is no concrete syllabus and each student will progress at a pace and in a learning style appropriate to them. The sewing machines are super easy to work and you will get the hang of it by the end of day one so don't worry if you've never used a machine before.
You will be provided with all the materials you need to cover your practise seat and we even throw in a free lunch each day!
Sadly there is not enough time on any of the courses to upholster your entire van interior. The courses are designed to give you the skills and confidence you need to go away and perfect your craft. If you want to hit the ground running when you go back home then we can supply you with a brand new sewing machine and matching materials to finish your project. We will also ensure you know which suppliers to use for your future projects.
Dates, times and location of courses
There are no set dates for the courses, we try to run them at a time which suits you, however we do restrict them to weekdays.
Courses run from 9am - 4pm each day at our workshop in Chapelton, South Lanarkshire.
